History
Starting from a humble beginning of 8 swimmers in May 2000, numbers today are 270 swimmers. TidalWaves Swim Squad has trained in pools throughout Doha. On the 1st of March 2003 the club gained access to Al Jazeera Academy 25 metre 9 lane indoor swimming pool. Conditions in this pool are an improvement to the many problems encountered at the many outdoor pools used over the preceding years, seniors also train 1 day a week at Qatar Foundation 50m indoor pool. In order to give a name to the squad, suggestions were taken from the 8 original swimmers and TidalWaves won with a majority of the vote.TidalWaves swimmers regularly perform better than average at the local school swimming galas. Over the years a number of our swimmers have gone on to swim at National level in their own countries. With a view to improving the quality of teaching and coaching; in February 2005 the club arranged for an A.S.A. Lead tutor/STA Tutor from the U.K. to come to Doha and run Poolside Helper and Level 1 & 2 Teaching Certificate courses, the club now also runs N.A.R.S. lifesaving courses, as well as (CPD) continuing professional development workshops, which includes the sports coach UK child protection certificate for all our staff, also the course for our 13-15 year olds Student Teaching Certificate, The staff also completed a voice protection and projection workshop.
Qatar Airways have been kind enough to sponsor the flights from UK for most of the courses.
